5 Friday Finds!!!!! ScreenSlice!!

We decided to cut streaming services. TV is just awful, especially commercials. The truth is that with the exception of sports, an occasional series, documentary, and some cooking shows, we are generally unenthusiastic about TV. Here are marquee reasons we chose to cut out TV until college football returns:

·       At the forefront nothing is Christ-centered or family centered

·       TV is predictable

·       Hidden Advertisements and trashy commercials

·       Foul language

·       Awful body images portrayed

·       Violence

If we have to turn it off when kids would walk in, then it is not worth watching it at all. We ought to be examples for our children. Although watching television in and of itself is not sinful, if we are honest with ourselves most of what is coming out of the tube these days I would question may have no lasting benefit to the kingdom of God.  Does TV content spur you on to love Christ more?  Is it helpful in your engagement with culture and other worldviews from an evangelistic standpoint?  Is it replacing your time in Scripture, prayer, and meditation?  These are just a few questions we as parents might need to ask ourselves.

There are a few shows we may miss like Tracker, Outer Banks, or Sportscenter. However, neither of us will miss how violence and murder is so common in shows, that it hardens hearts so much that it seems acceptable in society. Having ideologies and agendas from both the left and right wings through commercials or the news will certainly not be missed. Most of all not watching and diligently monitoring other media outlets on our phones have improved our moods, helped us stop comparing ourselves to others, promoted better sleep, our kids don’t ask to use our phones, allowed more intentional time at dinner, prayers before bed, and our kids have slept 100x better and in their own bedroom now they do not watch “kids TV” before bed. This may be foreign to some or seem “goody two shoes” but it simply has been a blessing for us. The time we spend reading, talking, walking, praying, or playing family games has been astounding. All Glory to God.

1. I can't wait to hang with twins for the first five hours of summer & then spend the rest of the 129,592 mins of summer crying lemonade tears!!

2. One twin was bragging to his brother about how he does the highest flips on the trampoline. I’m not sure where he gets his need to be better than other people, but he’s mistaken because I’m the highest flipper!!

3. I love when the twins ask me if i’m excited for summer vacation as if I don’t still have to wake them up, give them breakfast, pack their lunches, drive them to camp, pick them up, feed them dinner.

4. Me: Ahhh, the sounds of summer.

Twins: opening and closing the doors 1,000 times!!

5. Sure summer is chaotic with kids home all day and constant disasters popping up around the house, but there’s also suffocating humidity, searing heat and unquenchable thirst: welcome to what is called Built South Summer Twin break Tough!!
