5 Friday Finds!!!!! Rosa Parks!!

On Thursday, December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was commuting home from a long day of work at the Montgomery Fair department store by bus. Segregation was written into law; the front of a Montgomery city bus was reserved for white citizens, and the seats behind them for non-white citizens (What a truly ignorant law by the way). That is when the bus driver told Mrs. parks she had to give up her seat for a white-male and she needed to move to the back of the bus. Thankfully, she did not comply and Parks’ refusal to give up her bus seat in 1955 ignited a long boycott that lasted for 381 days, leading to the desegregation of transportation in Montgomery, Alabama. As a result, she was arrested for this and charged with violation of the laws of racial segregation, or the ‘Jim Crow’ laws and fined $10 dollars along with a $4 court fee which she appealed. After 381 days of the boycott, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in December 1956 that the segregation law was not aligned with the constitution. The boycott and its successful outcome triggered other civil rights protests over the years. Parks became one of the prominent faces of the battle against inequality. The bus in which Rosa Parks was sitting has been restored and is currently displayed in the Henry Ford Museum. As a member of the NAACP, Parks was an investigator assigned to cases of sexual assault. In 1945, she was sent to Abbeville, Alabama, to investigate the gang rape of Recy Taylor. The protest that arose around the Taylor case was the first instance of a nationwide civil rights protest, and it laid the groundwork for the Montgomery bus boycott and many more strengthened- organized protests. May we all thank those who in the face of fear, violence, intimidation never forget the best quote by a beautiful, string, smart, and dedicated female: "You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.” - Rosa Parks. Thank you for refusing to give up your seat day that Mrs. Parks!! Thank you for being a true American Hero that I can share about with my twins. May they grow up to be men who preserve the rights of all women and men regardless of race. may we all find a smile in your story and in the 5 finds this week.....

1. Bending spacetime, but it’s just 5-year-old twins fitting 5 hours of talking into the 5 minutes of being awake!!

2. Twins are the best, we went out to dinner on Wednesday and when we were done eating they asked the waiter if we had to do the dishes or if he was going to do them!!

3. 4:49am Twins arguing with Alexa this morning because she was not listening to them and now they understand what it’s like to be a twindad!!

4. Don’t judge me for the twins eating chicken nuggets for lunch yet again. Judge me for not knowing where the chicken nugget came from!!

5. You know what I'm thankful for every Holiday season? Having twins that all of a sudden are "tired" when I've had enough of visiting family!!
