5 Friday Finds!!!!! Fatherisms!!

Updated: Jun 15

“I love you” Love the son you have, not the son you want. Fatherly love is unconditional. You are both enough!!

“Get back up” Let sons learn from failure. Give them guidance when needed. “Fall down 7 times, get up all 7 times.” Never stay down.

“It’s okay to be angry, sad, or depressed. It’s NOT okay to stay angry, sad, or depressed.” To manage emotions, you must first be able to feel and experience. Teach them how to manage, understand, and regulate emotions. (This is a lifelong journey, trust me.)

“Treat your mother with respect” A father needs to treat his wife with respect. A boy learns how to treat women by how his father treats his wife.

“In order to get what you want, you have to deserve what you want.” The world isn’t crazy enough to reward a bunch of undeserving people.

“I don’t know everything” A dad might be a sons hero… But we don’t know everything. Just 99.9% of things. It’s important a son knows he can question authority, because the experts aren’t always right. It’s important to say sorry, and sometimes say I don’t know, but we can research it together and figure it out.

“You can’t give what you don’t have.”

-Love

-Loyalty

-Empathy

-Happiness

Show them these and lead by example. No one is perfect, but they will see the intentionality and need to hear an apology when a Dad falls short.

“I am proud of you and who you are becoming.” You are a hard worker and you’ll figure it out. Your actions will have consequences. You can do anything, only if you practice and sacrifice what others will not. Words of affirmation are critical.

“You have what it takes. I believe in you.” You need to instill a healthy competitive nature, confidence, and self-reliance. A strong father will lay the foundation for self-esteem.

“Stop listening to what people say and watch what they do.” Words lie, actions reveal truth. Listen and keep your eyes wide open. Observance is a lost art. Build common sense.

“You will be happiest when building your mind, body, family, business” Create more than you consume. Go out into the world and make something happen. Soak up different cultures and don't stop traveling.

“Be a gentleman and stand your ground.” Have a strong set of moral principles and do the right thing, even when everyone stands against you…

Put God first. Get up early in the morning. Exercise. Laugh each day. Spend more time outside vs. Inside. Create hobbies. And call your mom! Thank you for making me a father!!

1. The twins decided to ask Alexa the 1,002 questions reserved for me each day during the summer so basically you could say it was a good day!!

2. Explain why when nothing is going on my twins will nap for 2 hours but when I need to work it’s 30 mins max!!

3. Summer vacation is actually just me asking Twins if they have brushed their teeth yet because we are way off any resemblance of a routine!!

4. Instructor: Welcome to our Summer with Twins Preparedness class. Our first lesson is how to apply sunscreen. Everyone grab two angry raccoons as they run toward the pool!!

5. School year: Kids get up it's time for school. But Dad we're so tired!

Summer: 6am: What are we doing today? What's for lunch?? We are wide awake!!
