Earnest people are very serious and sincere in what they say or do, because they think that their actions and beliefs have impact. When your mom and I chose to procreate it was not without conviction or earnest discussions. We both remain committed to raising sons that will leave society in a better a place. However, I still owe both of you an apology. The world itself is a nasty, vile, evil, and corrupted place. At times, especially in the last 48 hours watching the invasion of Ukraine I ask my, “Who would do this to another human being?” Produce bundles of joy, and then force them to exist through what may be the beginning of a catastrophic war or at the very least some real instability felt by many nations. Many questions remain unanswered for now. I may be writing this back in uniform facing a darker evil we have yet to see since the holocaust. Please forgive me for being responsible for subjecting you to this world. My prayer is you continue being the light God fully intends you to be. Make no mistake you have warrior blood running in your veins. Never ever live in fear. My only concern is that this generation is not ready for an escalade of this magnitude. Believe me as you grow it is my job to teach you the importance of defending your home, the truth about real evil and fascination rulers have with war, occupying as much land as possible, and what it means when you stand up to bullies whether in triumph or death. Of the 137 deaths in Ukraine so far, they did not die in vain. They died for a purpose, courageously standing up for beliefs, rights, and their own home land. May some of us be so lucky to die honorably. “Perhaps we should not eschew our joy for the sake of earnest thought but rather remain aware that we can think in earnest in many kinds of moments, including in times of joy or turbulence. “

4. I love when kids rename things. For example, my kids call snacks “nackies” gold fish “fishes” Reese’s “butter cups” all chips “chippies” and anything mom cooks “do we have anything else to eat??”
5. I jokingly asked the twins where their off button is and they have been walking around the house looking for it for the last 10 minutes, and now I’m mad at myself for not having thought of this sooner!!
